Android Ecosystem Security
Google's Android ecosystem security Transparency Report: the rate of Potentially Harmful Applications (PHA) — malware — on Android devices and in Google Play. A tidy-long dataset covering five cuts: PHA rates on devices (by market type and by Android version), and PHA install rates on Google Play (overall, by country, and by malware category). Values are rates, not counts — a PHA rate is a fraction of installs or devices — so this page reports averages and shares, never sums.

Percentage of devices, by Android version, with at least one potentially harmful application installed, per quarter.
PHA rate on devices by market type
Share of devices with a PHA installed, averaged over the full 2019 – 2024 reporting window — all devices vs. enterprise devices with Google Play Protect (identical windows, so the comparison is fair).
PHA install rate by country
Percentage of Google Play installs that were PHAs in the latest reported 12-month window, across the top-volume Android markets. Countries without a value for that window are omitted (coverage windows differ per country).
PHA installs by malware category
Each malware category's share of PHA installs from Google Play in the latest reported quarter (shares sum to ~100% within the quarter).
Malware categories by install rate
PHA install rate from Google Play by malware category in the latest reported quarter. (Categories exist for different spans of the 2017 – 2024 series, so an all-quarters average would compare unlike windows.)

The number of reported values in each cut of the dataset. Counts of rows, not summed quantities.
